How long do I need to be a Telcoe member before I can apply for a loan?
While you will need to join the credit union so that you can apply for a Telcoe loan, as well as to get access to your credit report, once you do become a member, you’re ready to apply for a loan–that same day!
It’s as simple as applying online by visiting www.telcoe.com and logging into your account. Then, click on Select APPLICATIONS, and you’re off and running, ready to apply for a boat, auto, or personal loan.
If you’re interested but would like to speak to one of our loan specialists before joining, contact us. They’ll be happy to answer your questions and address your concerns.

Are boat loans eligible for Telcoe’s Skip-a-Pay option?
Yes!
In addition to Auto, RV, and Motorcycle loans, boat loans are also eligible for consideration for our Skip-a-Payment program.
This program, running in December to allow members to have more cash on hand during the holidays, lets you defer your monthly loan payment. The application period begins in October. If you would like to skip your December payment(s), all you have to do to apply is complete the easy online form request.
I would like to apply for a boat (or other) loan, but I don’t have much credit history. What are my options?
Telcoe understands that not all of our members come to us with a perfect credit history. Some have had no time to establish one in the first place.
Accordingly, we offer a CREDIT BUILDER LOAN so that we can help our members who want to establish credit and/or build their credit score with the TransUnion credit bureau.
In order to be eligible, members must be at least 18 years of age or older, and they must have employment income. With those things in place, they can establish a credit builder loan with Telcoe.

Is there a difference between taking out a loan with a credit union, versus borrowing from a traditional commercial bank?
If you’re not already a Telcoe member, you likely belong to a bank that probably already offers boat loans. You may be wondering, then, what exactly is the difference between taking out a loan with us versus borrowing from a bank? You may also wonder whether the application and approval process is any different.
Simply put, while a typical bank is primarily interested in profits, credit unions are member-owned. They are also nonprofits. In practical terms, once a credit union meets its overhead costs, it can pass along its earnings to members. The result is in your checking and savings accounts, showing up as higher dividends, as well as the savings you get from lower interest rates on your loans.
This model is also the reason that credit unions can usually offer their members loans for which they may not qualify at traditional commercial banks. Credit union employees work with their members in order to help them plan for their financial futures. Credit unions offer various products and services, including them with their benefits. These often include financial literacy and counseling services.
